Petco Flagship Store at Union Square

Petco, a prominent name in the pet health and wellness industry, proudly presents its new flagship store within the iconic Tammany Hall, a designated historical landmark in the heart of New York City. Situated just across Union Square from its former location, this recent transformation of Tammany Hall, erected in 1929, reflects a harmonious blend of historical preservation and modern innovation.

At the helm of this architectural renaissance is XCE, serving as the structural consultant for this ambitious project. XCE played a pivotal role in seamlessly integrating Petco's vision with the classic architectural charm of New York City, breathing new life into the three-story pet-care haven. The 25,000-square-foot space now boasts exposed brick walls, herringbone wood floors, and a symbolic glass dome, paying homage to Tammany Hall's populist past while ushering in a contemporary era.

A crowning achievement of XCE's structural ingenuity is the signature staircase, spanning 40 feet, secured with pretension stainless cables, designed to seamlessly match the surrounding floors with elegant cast iron risers. This captivating architectural element not only serves a functional purpose but stands as a focal point, gracefully illuminating the entire project. XCE's structural design expertise extends to floor reinforcement, strategically supporting the unique loads associated with Petco's services, aligning with both cooperation goals and the overarching architectural design vision.

Collaboration was pivotal in this transformative endeavor. XCE worked seamlessly with architects, consultants, the client (Petco), and the contractor, ensuring a harmonious integration of structural elements with the overall design. This meticulous coordination aimed at achieving structural excellence while meeting the functional and aesthetic requirements set by Petco and the architectural vision for the landmark building.

The Petco Flagship Store Renovation at Tammany Hall stands as a testament to the successful synergy between historical preservation, structural engineering, and modern design innovation. Through this collaborative effort, Tammany Hall has been rejuvenated, adding value to its storied past while embracing a future that elevates the pet-care experience in the heart of New York City.
